Yesterday

Morning all-

Yesterday I didn’t post (shock!)- went out straight from work to catch up with some old friends, and by the time I got home I was tired, it was late, so I had some tea and didn’t turn the computer on.

But normal service will be resumed today! ๐Ÿ™‚

Am pottering about letting my breakfast go down before I go out on my run. I am actually wearing a long sleeved top as opposed to my running vest as it is so cold. I don’t think I can get away with it any longer!

I saw in the news that on average we all own 15 cookery books- well, a quick count and I have over double that! Lots of gifts, loads of baking books (what a surprise), some freebie books (like a rowse honey book , the Doves Farm book, some olive oil book), but loads of books! It also said that most people stick to 7 recipes- spag bol, pasta and sauce, stir fry, shepherds pie, sunday roast, stew and one other (I can’t remember what-EDIT- it was omlettes). We tend to stick to the same recipes most of the time, but we do swap things in and out, and try new recipes now and then. Our faves are chilli, spagetti (pesto for me/ meat for Andy), home made pasta sauce with pasta, home made pizza, home made calzone, sausage and bean bake, mexican bean wraps, fajitas, bean/meat burgers, veggie moussaka, lentil/beany bake things. But I have been trying new things too.

So- how many cookery books do you own?

ย What are the main meals that you tend to cook and eat?

And any new recipes that you are going to try soon?

Back later for a run recap ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. You’ve made me curious enough to count! Thirty four. Though I suspect we’ve parted with 6-10 over the years too. Top authors seem to be Jamie Oliver, Nigel slater, Madhur Jaffrey, Delia. Only baking book is probably many people’s staple: Mary Berry’s.

  2. I can’t count, as I’m not at home right now, but definitely well over 7! I’m terrible though for just sticking to the same old favourites week in week out. I do try to mix in new things, but whenever I get too busy or stressed, I just revert back to cooking auto-drive! I like that you include so many beans and pulses in your cooking though. I’m trying to make that more of a habit. As for new recipes, I’m going to try my hand at making rice pudding for the first time today!

  3. Rob- I am glad I am not the only one with a massive amount of cookery books! Although my fave is Rachel Allen (I have most of her books)- dont have many other “celeb” chef ones really. I do have a WI collection of 4 books in a box which have lots of good recipes. I have more of the company books (eg innocent smoothie book, covent garden soup book, ben and jerrys ice cream book and so on!).I may be the only person who doesnt own one single delia smith book!
Alison- home made rice pud is delish There is one on the wlr database by annaB I think- (although you dont need low cal right now do you??). With some raisins and cinnamon mmmmmm.
I like to try new recipes when I have time, but after work and after a run/ class I want something quick that I know how to do. I am much better now at getting beans and pulses in- I used to be a bad vegetarian in many ways- so much cheese and carby things, very little protein. But now I like them so its easy to add them in to things.:)
