Festive recap and (gasp) a run!

Hello all

(Some of my gifts lucky me- some super warm slippers, a cute lunch pot and flask, and some clinique perfume)

I hope you all had a fab day yesterday, and are having a relaxing boxing day (although, not sure if it is boxing day as it is a Sunday?).

Anyway, here is a quick recap of yesterday first of all.

We got up nice and late, had breakfast (pumpkin porridge for me) and then opened some presents. Andy was feeling bad as my present was a surprise trip to Discovery Cove, and we were supposed to be there on Monday, but he had to tell me at the airport, and we have postponed it until the summer. So I had nothing to open from him, and I don’t think he believed me when I said I didn’t mind. The gift from him is amazing and I have months of looking forward to it 🙂

(Some of my running gifts- tops, loads of gels and bars to try, Born to Run and RUN LESS RUN FASTER )

We had a walk (it was so cold out there I think my eyeballs froze), I had some clementines, and then we headed to his parents house for the afternoon and evening. We had a lovely dinner -I provided a pumpkin and goats cheese canneloni for my meal, as Andy’s mum has enough cooking to do. I piled up the carrots too (but I declined the sprouts- I am not a fan!). I also had some yummy christmas pudding with a little bit of ice cream. Later in the afternoon we opened our presents together, played some games, watched Strictly, played more games, and had a cheese and picalilli sandwich and some cake. The best game was a rather competative game of Articulate . It was a great day- I love the fact that no-one is in a hurry, we spend ages playing silly games and it is totally relaxing. Eating wise, I had not enough fruit and veg, and too much cake, but in the grand scheme of things it is one day.

(Some baking related pressies including a cupcake stand, some teapigs tea and The Great British Book of Baking – I have seen so many fab looking recipes in there!)

Andy was also given a Marmite cook book and the weirdest thing of all- Marmite chocolate. He loves marmite and spreads it really thickly, and his Mum got it as she had given his other brothers other chocolate that they liked- I think it was a “I saw this and thought of you in an instant!” kind of gift. Now, I do like marmite, but I don’t love it. And I feel very suspicious of it. Anyone tried it?

Now, onto today. Andy was off to watch a football match (which I have just heard has been called off after he made the journey there) and I went on a run! Hooray! I have not run since the wednesday before last, and it was such a great run! I had to be so careful getting to the clear pavement, as every day the pavement by my house gets even more slippery. But once I was there, it was fab! There was a mile stretch, so I went out and back 3 times (for 6 miles) and I amazed myself by being totally steady- every time I turned another 10 minutes had gone. My legs were like a metronome!  I passed the same family 6 times as they were walking on the same stretch of pavement! Once home I had what I like to call the cold weather glow!

(My cheeks looked pinker in real life than they do in the pic!)

Once shower and clif bar later and I felt a little warmer, and a slightly more normal colour!

(How do other bloggers take such good pics of themselves? I just can’t do it!! At least my head was actually in this pic- a few of them ended up being of the wall!)

And now it is time for some baking- my poor oven must be wondering what is going on haha!

So, did you all have a lovely christmas? What is your fave christmas family game?  And did you manage some exercise over the last few days?

  1. I have no idea how other bloggers manage self-portraits unless they get someone else to hold the camera – my hand always shakes and the pics end up blurred. Which is probably just as well in my case 😛

Random question but your hair is gorgeous in the second pic! Do you do anything special to it or is it just naturally thick and shiny?

My favourite games are Scrabble and Monopoly. Boring? Classics, I say…although my Dad always beats me.

I did manage a 14 mile run on xmas day which I was chuffed with. The roads were deserted so I ran the wrong way up a duel carriageway, which was very liberating. I felt like such a rebel hehe. Ice has made things very difficult now though ~ it’s almost worse when the snow thaws and re-freezes because my spikes are no good 🙁

Your day doesn’t sound excessive at all! In fact it seems very balanced and about 1/10 of what most people will have eaten over xmas ~ you should hear some of the tales of overindulgence from some of the people at my gym today!

Hope you’re having a great Boxing Day

    1. Aw thanks so much- you are so sweet!
My hair is just super thick (get it from my Dad who is half Austrian)- that pic is half blow dryed and then I gave up (still wet at the back!). To make it neat I sometimes use good old GHD’s too as it gets massive kinks from the ponytail!
Wow well done on the run- 14 miles is super impressive. I can imagine that loads of people went crazy and ate way too much but I don’t like that feeling of being stuffed so I ate a normal amount of food, but slightly less healthy.
Yeah the classic games are the best- who needs to reinvent the wheel right?
      x

    1. Oh yeah, Andy’s MUm gave him a photocopy of the marmite spagetti- I will be interested to see what it is like :)Yoga is a good choice- good to have some balance.

    1. It was a fab day you are right- the slippers are keeping me warm right now 🙂
Glad you had a fab day too!

  2. By my account you had a very restrained Christmas, I have just indulged in some cheese & biscuits as I’m back to no dairy/wheat/yeast or sugar again tomorrow. My body has had an awful time trying to deal with it and my cows milk cappuch at lunch today was the final straw & I barely made it home from Wimbledon in time!!!!
I don’t do self portraits either but now I’ve been told my iPhone has a reverse camera so may have to give it a go … cheat stylie 😉

    1. Reverse camera sounds very clever.
It was restrained really- being veggie means that all the “treats” available were pigs in blankets, turkey, ham and so on- which I dont like but also would not eat. So that helps I suppose! But even if you eat a lot, it is only one day after all 🙂

  3. Yaay, some pictures of you! I can’t offer any good advice on how to take good self-portraits though. Check out my most recent one and you’ll see why!

I have heard so much about Born to Run — it pops up on some running blog or other pretty much every week! I keep meaning to get hold of it. I’ll be interested to hear what you think.

No proper exercise for me Thursday – Sunday. I think it’s nice to have a rest 🙂

    1. And you can see why I hardly put them on my blog haha! I must have taken about ten pictures of the wall first!

  4. I did indeed have a lovely Christmas! I can see you managed an impressive loot of presents. I didn’t do any exercise over Christmas, naught me! To be honest exercise has not been a priority of mine for about six weeks. I’m just about sorted on getting my eating habits back on track, a few more days, and I think Operation-Go-Back-To-The-Gym will have to be enforced!

    1. Sounds good- we all need a rest now and then, and you will be raring to go once you get back in the gym again 🙂
