Motivation needed!

Evening all.

Nearly half way through the week already!

Just a quick one before I watch “Don’t tell the bride”- car crash TV but I love it!!

I had a new snack today; Andy picked up some cinnamon malt loaf the other day (I love cinnamon!) so I had a slice this morningfor my snack.

I would love to make malt loaf so if you have a good recipes please let me know!  🙂

(I didn’t take a pic of the slice as it looked very squidgy and more like a blob than a slice!)

Work was so busy and the traffic was awful, so once home I didn’t have long before aerobics. I had a peanut clif bar;

But the traffic was still awful, it was raining, my friend was not going so I was seriously considering not going to aerobics- shock!

But I made myself go and in the end had a fab time. I love the aerobics class. We have a short warm up, then we do a little routine (it changes every few weeks and each week we are shown it from the beginning), then after that we get into lines and do really high impact stuff- one line does it (for example star jumps for 30 seconds), then the next line does that while the first line does something else. It is very organised and I love the high energy in the room. I felt sooooooo much better after!

After a shower and tea it is time for a baked apple I think 🙂

Good news- I got an email from the lovely local health food shop; I asked them if they could get hold of some Carley’s organic sunflower seed butter, and they emailed to say they have some ready for me! I am pretty excited to try it as a change from nut butters. Sunflower seeds are my fave seeds!

So….Any tips when you are flagging with your motivation?

Looking forward to aerobics!

I am looking forward to that tonight- to leaping around the room to cheesy tunes!

I had to go to the doctors this morning, which I hate. I get very nervous going there, and always have very high blood pressure readings, which then makes me worry more in case I actually have high BP. Anyway, luckily the appointment was on time so I didn’t have to sit in the waiting room getting nervous for too long. I now have a special sheet of paper to record my own BP readings at home. Fingers crossed it will be fine!

After that I had to do shopping (last food shop before I go back to work and we can get it delivered again!)- but at that time it was nice and quiet.

I made some pasta sauce (basically it is roasted vegetables- this time various coloured peppers, tomatoes, red onion, with garlic, oregano and a little bit of olive oil)- which I will then put into little tubs and freeze- easy peasy work night dinner

🙂

I was supposed to be having people over this afternoon, so I made some cute little dark chocolate cookies from Hummingbird . But they keep dropping out so I may well have the radio for company instead!

I adapted the recipe to make half, and it still made 15 mini cookies:

Preheat oven to 170C/ 325F).

Gently melt together 100g dark chocolate and 25g butter (I used clover light).

In a seperate bowl mix one egg, 85g brown sugar and 1tsp vanilla and whisk together. Slowly add melted chocolate mix.

Then stir in 45g flour (I used wholegrain spelt from Dove’s Farm), 1tsp baking powder and gently mix. Then add in 50g chopped dark choc.

Spoon onto baking trays and bake in the oven for 10-15 mins. Mine only took ten mins as I like them chewy, and they will continue baking on the trays for a little bit.

Then transfer to a cooling rack once they have cooled a little.

I worked out the cals as 95 cals per cookie, so not bad for a little treat.

(Here is the pasta saue before I blend it up!)

I also had a look on healthy living blogs today. It is a new website, sort of a directory of all different blogs. If you want your blog to be on there, then you email them- details here:

To be included in the blog listings, simply send an email with the following information to healthylivingblogs@gmail.com:

  • Email subject line: MEMBERS
  • Your name (please let me know if you prefer to go by first name, first and last, or however you prefer to be known on the Internet)
  • Your blog name and URL
  • Your twitter username, if you have it
  • Your location (if you prefer not to disclose this information for privacy’s sake, that is completely understandable. We’ll simply include your blog listing in the a-z listing, not by location, too)
  • Any specific labels (i.e. vegan, gluten-free, weight loss, running, etc.)

I did it a few days ago and my blog is now on there 🙂 and I have already had a nose around other people’s blogs, so it’s a good source if you are looking for specific blogs too.

In other news I have got confirmation that I am signed up to the Hers 10K, on the 11th October, so that is good as it is my first race since the St Albans Half marathon. I did the race last year, so I am hoping to beat my time, and as I know the course a little better I should be able to pace myself. Here’s to hoping anyway.

The only thing that annoys me is that the entry fee includes a T-shirt, but it is a baggy cotton one, which I would never wear. There is no option for not getting the t-shirt (which would be better as then the extra amount could go to charity). Or perhaps they could do a more expensive entry fee that included a technical t-shirt instead? The two of us are starting to get a drawer full, as we both did the Herts 10k last year and the St Albans Half had a free t-shirt at the end too.

My fave end of course must is a medal (coz I deserve it) and a banana (coz I need it!). I have never got anything amazing in a goody bag- a few trial packs of muesli, cereal bars, energy drinks and stuff seem to be the norm.

So any fave race mementos? Or any end of race goody-bag wishes?

🙂

Downpour and decisions

Gosh it just absolutely tipped it down! I went to aerobics and was chatting to my friend outside when all of a sudden it chucked it down! Had to drive home very slowly as the roads were saturated, plus even the wipers on the highest speed were not clearing the rain fast enough.

Before aerobics I tried an oatmeal raisin walnut Clif bar- that thing was tasty! I found it in the health food shop, and decided to try them, as I have seen them on wiggle but only in big bulk buy boxes. It tasted like an oatmeal raisin cookie- really delicious and moist. The bar was 50g, and for that you get 189 cals, 31.5g carbs (perfect for before aerobics) and 7.5g protein (it has some soya in it). It also has loads of added vitamins and minerals (unclusing 23% RDA calcium and 13% iron), so in fact would have been ideal for me to take on holiday too. I have 2 other flavours; chocolate chip and peanut butter and am now expecting amazing things!

On to decisions- I had my opticians appointment today and as someone who is not good at making decisions it is so difficult! To begin with you have the actual eye test where they keep showing you “one, or two, which is clearer?” and you have to choose between the lenses. That is hard enough, but then when it comes to actually choosing new frames for the glasses it is even harder! They never have the frames from last time, so I then have to spend ages looking at all the types to find ones that are similar. Trouble is, as I wear them all the time I have to feel comfortable in them, whereas I think if I had them just for reading or just for driving then I could go for a more funky pair. Anyway, after ages of deliberating I have chosen them, and now comes the waiting game, where in my head I can’t remember what they look like and convince myself that they don’t suit me.

Hmm- you can tell I am not keen on the opticians!

Anyway, not much else to report really. I had to wait in for the post today so spent time updating the review bit on here (the section “Stuff I love”)- even with some fancy links in- hope they work!

I had some delicious rye bread for lunch with sunflower seeds in it, with some cream cheese, tomatoes and green pesto, plus an apple and a slice of the gone-wrong-banana bread.

That’s all folks!

Fun at aerobics

So today was another busy day at work (blah blah I won’t go on about that), so when I got home I had just enough time to have a yummy Trek Peanut and Oat bar (love these so much- I have a massive box of them on top of my fridge to work my way through- they are my fave pre-aerobics snack) plus lots of water before heading out to aerobics.

It was good fun as always, but really hard work, my legs felt very heavy still; I think the long run at the weekend is still tiring me out today. So I was going to have a run tomorrow but I think I will rest, and have a walk instead.

When I got home I was annoyed to find someone had parked in my space. This happens all the time and it drives me mad! Because I have a parking space (with a massive sign which I got put there because it kept happening) and not a driveway people seem to think that it is perfectly acceptable to park in my space. Well it is not- grr! So there I was all sweaty after aerobics going around knocking on doors trying to find out who it belonged to. I really would like one of those bollards that go into the ground (you know like in the bus lanes?) but I think that may be too expensive to pay for!

Anyway dinner was good- pasta with roasted vegetable sauce (home-made of course!) and later I am going to enjoy another pot of Alpro with granola sprinkled on top. Tasty.

That’s all folks!
