Sunny Spain

Hey peeps,

I hope everyone has been enjoying the festive period and relaxing/ doing whatever you enjoy.

After our long journey to and from Granada on Christmas Eve, we decided to stay nearer to the apartment on Christmas day. After a leisurely morning, we packed a lunch and drove off to the coast. We were so lucky.

The weather was just gorgeous.

No coat needed!

We walked up and down the beach, sat in the sun and had our picnic lunch, and then walked some more.

I packed this gingerbread in our suitcase (from the Vienna markets) so we had that to make our picnic festive!

I even made a Christmas tree and snowman (sand-man?).

But the snowman kept being washed away by the tide- should have chosen a more sensible place on the beach perhaps!

I expected it to be fairly quiet, but it was really busy with people walking along, eating or drinking in the bars by the beach, and a few brave (stupid?) sunbathers. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised as the climate was good, but I think as where we are staying is so isolated, it feels like there isn’t anyone else in the country. I can’t imagine coming here in the summer though- not being a beach-to-bar person anyway it would not be my kind of thing, but also it would be so hot. And as you can see, the sand isn’t exactly perfect for making castles. But for winter sun this has been perfect.

Good news on the cough front- it seems to be nearly gone, apart from a few coughing fits when I first wake up. But all the shortness of breath that I was experiencing has gone, and I feel like I have my normal amount of energy, no headaches, my rubs and back don’t ache any more, and my cold is pretty much gone too, so I am certainly passed the worst, and am hoping for a New Years Day parkrun to kick off Jantastic 2015 in style- hooray!

Has anyone picked up anything good in the sales? We have wi-fi here, so I have browsed a few shops and ordered myself a pair of very warm and cosy looking slippers, and (how exciting) a new washing basket. Yep, I know how to live!

  1. The weather looks amazing, glad you are having a good time! You know just how you’ve described your symptoms I’m sure we must have had a similar cold, I felt rotten over Christmas, glad you are feeling better though. I’ve bought a few tops from Warehouse and some of that soy based polish remover off Love Lula in the sales 🙂

    1. I have had this virus for weeks now- in fact possibly over a month- when we got back from Vienna. I finally have started feeling like myself again, when it was hard to remember what that felt like.
Thanks for reminding me about the polish remover- I meant to get some more of the lemongrass stuff as I love it!

    1. The weather is lovely- not too hot, but the sun is higher so the colours are very clear I think. I don’t think I have ever been to the beach on Christmas day before, but it was a lovely way to spend it.

  2. I’m so pleased that your cough has almost cleared up ~ perhaps the sun and clear air finally managed to shift it a bit. The beaches are absolutely breathtaking ~ I can’t think of a better place to go for a winter break.

I wish I could have spirited myself there somehow: the weather here is atrocious and it’s like a new ice age where I am!

    1. Thanks- I think that not working and really resting has helped too. The beaches are very pretty and I think the sunshine just helps- a good vitamin D boost anyway.
You can travel here by train- now the Eurostar connects to other places, so one day you could make it. x

  3. It looks lovely, I’ve never been anywhere hot over Christmas, I’m not sure I’d feel festive!

Which parkrun are you doing on NYD? I’m eagerly awaiting delivery of a new waterproof running jacket which I bought online in the sales and I got a lovely oak leaf necklace 🙂

    1. Probably Panshanger, which is in Hertford but I think officially Welwyn (in Hertfordshire). That one is at 9am, and my preferred course. I could do the St Albans one, which is 10.30, but I don’t like it as much, and it will be busier, and you have to pay to park, and the car park gets full. Some people are doing both but I think I would be cutting it fine.
The necklace sounds lovely, as does the waterproof jacket- new running gear is always good!

  4. I’m going to do my first new years day parkrun this year! (or should I say next year haha). I’m looking forward to it. Some sunshine at this time of year sounds amazing.

  5. Looks like a lovely place to spend Christmas! I’ve bought loads in the sales… running stuff, cycling stuff, swimming stuff and normal everday clothes too!

  6. Looks fabulous! I’m not a beach person either – I think Mexico stretched my limit as days when we had nothing planned I got a bit bored and would force Ben to go walking and exploring with me hehe. I love the idea of going somewhere where the weather is better than the UK but not crazy hot around Christmas. It looks very beautiful!
And glad to hear you’re feeling better 🙂
