Hey peeps, long time no blogging here. Pretty much I have still been coughing all over the place, and then last week got a cold on top of the cough, so I have been in a bit of a grump over that still (still no running either).
Sadly last Friday we had to go to my Nan’s funeral, as she passed away last month. But we had already booked a night in Bath (for the Christmas markets etc) so decided to till go there after, for something to look forward to.
We didn’t head into Bath until nearly lunch time, and had a quick look around the shops. The weather was beautiful (so clear and bright) so we bought sandwiches and hot drinks and sat outside with this view.
We walked down to the river too.
Such a lovely place to visit.
It was the final weekend of the Christmas markets and it was heaving, so after a bit more of a walk around we went to the spa. We had only been there once before (after the Bath half in March) and although that was amazing, being able to walk properly was even better!
This time we hired robes too- last time we only hired a towel and because you wrap the towel around you when walking around, it was very wet by the time I actually needed to try. The robe was the way to go. We didn’t go in the rooftop pool, but we went in a few steam rooms which helped my chest and cold no end- I could actually breathe!
We went in at about 2, and you have a 2 hour time slot plus time for changing and hair drying, and by the time we left it was dark (the reindeer was in the window- so pretty) and it was queued out of the door. I think we went at the right time.
We were both pretty thirsty, so headed to a cafe for tea and cake (mine was an orange polenta cake- delicious), before doing some shopping. Then we had dinner (lovely Bill’s, oh how I love Bill’s) and then finally time for the markets- they are way too busy in the day, and open until 9pm so it is much better to go back when it is a bit quieter.
Yup, not sure how to turn the flash off!
I had a proper hot chocolate, and we bought ourselves some tree decorations, before driving back home.
We saw strings of these dried oranges and cinnamon sticks in Vienna, but we weren’t sure how easy they would be to get back on the plane. They make our whole living room smell like Christmas.
I think that this is our third year in a row of visiting the Bath Christmas markets, and I think we have perfected our weekend now- we will be back!
So sorry to hear about your nan, much love to you and family xx
Isn’t it funny, we have a Bills here and we hate it; I’ve tried several times and its just never been good, now I couldn’t drag the boys in kicking and screaming I’m afraid 🙁
Thanks x
That is strange- I have been to 3 or 4 different Bill’s (for breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner) and I love them. Once, we had very slow service (the waiter was new) but I really love the food there so I can excuse that!
Sorry to hear about your nan, and that you are still feeling under the weather. Hope you get better soon! I love the bath spa, it’s amazing, those steam rooms are lovely.
Thank you.
Yes, I wish we lived nearer to Bath, although probably a good thing to keep it as a rare treat!
So sorry to hear about your Nan.
Your time in Bath sounds lovely, I must check out the spa! Love the Christmas decorations too
Thanks Claire,
Yes the spa is well worth a visit.
Sorry to hear about your Nan.
Bath looks beautiful, I have never been. We have a Bills here and I have never been.
Thanks.
Bath is worth a visit, I love it (and Bill’s too).
I loved that spa when I went earlier in the year – all those steam rooms! Lovely. I remember you saying you went after the Bath half and it was tough because your legs were so sore and tired. I hope you enjoyed it a lot more this time.
I’ve been to that Bill’s! Rarely do I get to say these things on people’s blogs but I’ve been there! I really liked it. I think I got a Caesar salad (sounds about right) and really enjoyed it.
Christmas markets are a lot more fun in the evening anyway I find – a bit more romantic and atmospheric.
They do good salads in there (and soup, and hummus, and sweet potato fries….).
Yes the spa was very enjoyable and so nice and toasty as it was so cold outside.
Sorry to hear about your Nan 🙁 xxx
We didn’t make it to Bath this year as my Dad no longer lives there. It is a lovely Christmas Market though.
I love the veggie breakfast at Bill’s! We have one in Exeter if you ever find yourself venturing down here 🙂
Hope the last couple of days of term go ok for you, and you feel better in time for the holidays. We are definitely on the count down to Friday!! 🙂 xx
Thank you Lucy.
I have never had the veggie breakfast (not a huge fan of things like that for breakfast) but I have had their french toast and pancakes, and love those!
Thanks, yes, all the children are wilting now- they need the break too!
Sorry to hear about your Nan Maria.
I’ve always wanted to visit the Christmas markets in Bath after reading you previous posts about them. One year maybe…
Thank you.
Bath is worth a visit for you- I hope you make it one day.
Sorry again to hear about your Nan xxx
Bath sounds amazing! It’s definitely on my visit list, love that they have a proper Christmas Market 🙂
Thank you Laura.
Yes, the market is just beautiful there, and so many stalls all over the town centre too.
Bath is just lovely, isn’t it? I went to the xmas market there a few years ago and it was PACKED! Good idea to go a bit later in the day 🙂 xx
Yes, one of my favourite places to visit.
Yeah- after the first year of going around the one way system and not getting close to the markets, we have perfected it now I think!
Very sorry to hear about your Nan xxxxx
I’ve always wanted to go to the Christmas markets in Bath but never remember until I read your posts about them each year! Must put a reminder in my calendar for about October !
Thank you Rose.
Yes, put in a reminder- they are only on for about a month I think, but well worth a visit. We stay in the Premier Inn in Frome now and get the park and ride- the hotel was £29 for the night which is way cheaper than any of the Bath hotels!
Sorry to hear about your Nan.
I’ve visited the thermae bath spa before, I loved it. The rooftop pool is amazing. Bath is such a beautiful city!
Thank you.
Last time we braved the rooftop pool but with my cough this time we gave it a miss. I agree it is such a beautiful place,
Sorry to hear about your Nan Maria.
I went to the Bath spa in the summer and it was so lovely, we went first thing Sunday morning and it was a great start to the day. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmassy weekend.
Thank you Emma,
I am now trying to work out how else I can wrangle a visit to the spa there!
Sorry to hear about your Nan x
I’m off to Bath next weekend actually, well actually Bradford-upon-Avon but I will run along the river in Bath as it is not far away.
Thank you x
I have stayed there before- well, just outside of it, but that was before we discovered the super cheap Premier Inn! It is really pretty there- enjoy 🙂
