WIAW- a fun Saturday

Hi all- Thanks to Jenn for organising the midweek party.

This week I chose Saturday- some of my food is even in daylight when I took the picture!

Breakfast;

Note photo taken in the daylight! πŸ™‚

Gingerbread pancakes with coconut chocolate spread and coconut yoghurt. I freestyled it with the recipe- spelt flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, pumpkin puree, molasses, milk..

Cooked in a pan gently (that seems to be the key)

Tasty anyway.

Then I had a wander around a local Christmas market, and a 4 mile run in the wind.

Post run snack:

In the daylight! Yummy alpro chocolate milk.

Lunch:

Toast (sourdough wholewheat, although it tastes nice when not toasted) with red pepper hummus and tangerines. I also had some tea (cinnamon tea from Whitards although I don’t think they make it any more) and anΒ almond Christmas bar. This is an old photo so it is not in the daylight πŸ™‚

Dinner;

Bean and veggie bake with some wholewheat bread and cheese. Yum I love it when the cheese melts a little bit.

Dessert;

Lime and coconut yoghurt cake.

Hmm, not the best day food-wise- (not an awful day either- this is why I like WIAW as it is true to life and not trying to be perfect all the time)- not much fruit/ veg in there (I meant to have a pear with my lunch too but totally forgot). I was feeling pretty tired as we had a late night on Friday, so I think I was going after the sugary foods for some energy- especially for breakfast as I was starving!

Anyone else feel more hungry after a late night or tiring day?

  1. Yes, tiredness and stress = major sugar cravings over here.

    Although your day doesn’t look uncontrolled to me at all – if that’s ‘bad’ then I have no hope at all!

    And ‘MMMM’ to gingerbread pancakes πŸ˜€

    xxx

  2. Jessica I wasn’t saying it was bad really, just not a perfect example! πŸ™‚ I think it is pretty typical (except I usually eat more fruit)
    πŸ™‚

  3. Everything you ate looks so good; thrown together pancakes are always great, and I agree on low heat being the key, but the ginger and molasses sound delicious πŸ™‚
    I have days when I don’t really eat healthily but don’t forget, this was all still home made and you still got in tangerines, pumpkin, beans and veg so that’s almost the five a day… that sounds pretty healthy to me!

  4. I always feel very hungry after a late night, especially if I’ve eaten later at night, which is a bit weird.
    I don’t think your day’s eats are unhealthy – you get plenty of fruit and veg most of the time, so I don’t think that there’s anything to worry about.

  5. I always reach for sugary snacks if I’ve had a late night! I definitely feel like I need the sugar to keep me going…

    Gosh, your lunch looks tiny! I don’t think that would fill me up at all!

  6. Marijke it was a late lunch! And I had a snack! (I did not get up until gone 11 so it was not a normal day!).

  7. Ugh, I definitely eat more/crave sugary foods when I’m tired! It’s something I really struggle with as Toby still wakes up one, if not two, times in the night and then I often can’t get back to sleep…so it’s not even like I’m doing anything exciting to make me tired!

    Love the sound of those pancakes, and coconut lime cake, mmmm, at least your extra sugar came in the form of tasty homemade things! πŸ™‚

  8. bean and veggie bake is my kind of meal!!!
    your minnie mouse mug reminds me of my little sister. she is so sweet and minnie-like! in fact, she met her husband whilst working as a disney intern during college! and their wedding cake was the most exquisitely elegant disney cakes that i’ve ever seen in my life!
    i digress . . . πŸ™‚
    happy thursday! x

  9. I love that your WIAW is always so honest & true to life πŸ™‚ I think a lot of people try to cover up what they may feel is a day of less-than-ideal eating, and this day is nowhere near bad — but I appreciate that you’re honest about it & didn’t just pick another day of meals to photograph, you know?

  10. Sable- that was my point really- that is why I like it (WIAW I mean) as it is not always perfect and that is fine as that is life.
    Lyn- I normally leave 1.5 hours ish, or 2 hours. That week was longer as I went to the market in between, so more like 3 hours I would think.
    Nicole- glad you like the mug πŸ™‚
    Lucy- being woken up in the night must make it really hard.
