Protein pancake experiment

So a while back I was sent some Cherry recovery mix to try. It is basically a protein powder, and although I tried it as a drink I was not that keen. I kept seeing recipes for pancakes using protein powder, so thought I would have a try. On Sunday morning I went on a run with Andy- we did the short loop which is around 6.7 miles. After stretching, showering and warming up, I attempted the batter.

The recipe I found was 2 scoop of protein powder, 2 eggs and some fruit. I went for 1 egg, a little of the buckwheat pancake mix, and some soya milk so it made a normal looking batter. It smelled a lot like cherry!

I added some blueberries to the pan, but this didn’t work out so well as they were huge and so the pancake split when I flipped them.

They didn’t look very appetising (I burnt them a bit by being impatient and turning up the heat), but they tasted quite nice (and after running nearly 7 miles I am not that fussy!). They had a different texture to normal pancakes, but I much preferred that way of eating the protein powder than in a drink.

After that I tried out my new compression socks- I love them!

After pottering about a bit we headed to the cinema to see Wolf of Wall Street- much more light-hearted than our earlier cinema trip. I smuggled in some nuts and chocolate as it was 3 hours long (and no interval!) and we had missed lunch.

Do you tend to eat in the cinema? We don’t usually- sometimes I take a little chocolate bar with me for us to share, but I usually forget about it.

* I was sent the powder in exchange for a review- all opinions are my own.

  1. That’s a really good idea. I’ve still got a pot sat in my kitchen that’s been there for a while now. I tend to eat pancakes after my long run anyway and I think I’d find it much more appealing to have the powder as part of the pancakes than in a drink.

We saw Wolf of Wall Street on Friday night, although I didn’t realise how long it was going to be beforehand! I thought it was really good, although faded a little in the second half. Leonardo DiCaprio has had some fantastic films over the past few years. I’m a big fan of Inception and Shutter Island. WoWS reminded me a bit of him in Catch Me If You Can. Don’t know if you’ve seen that one?
We tend to try and plan ahead if we’re going to the cinema and pick up some pic ‘n’ mix from Wilkinsons, or eat dinner just before we head out. I like to pick at something during the film though.

    1. Yes I loved Catch me if you can! I thought it was a bit like a less romantic version of The Great Gatsby, and at times he was a bit like his character in Django Unchained.

    1. Yes they are 🙂 I have them for after a run though, can’t imagine running in long socks, not sure why!

  2. I am such a sucker for the sweets at the cinema. It’s become such a habit that I feel cheated if I don’t get any! Mad I know. But I do love it.
I love my compression socks. They’re so good after a hard race or run. My calves feel so much better afterwards.

    1. I agree I want compression socks to go all the way up to my hips as I bet my hamstrings would feel loads better too!

  3. I always have to eat in the cinema, I don’t know if its because I get nervous watching scary films and stress eat or because films these days seem to be SO long! I don’t think I could make it through one of the epic ones without munching on something!

    1. Yes the person next to me in 12 Years a Slave had nachos, which smelled so bad, and also seemed a bit disrespectful to the film- not sure why but it was such a serious film that eating “frivolous” snacks seemed wrong to me!
