Look what my friend gave me;
Two pretty boxes like this;
So last night after body pump (yay) I had half with Andy;
It was delicious dark chocolate with cream cheese icing- sooo good. Although Andy decided they were nothing special and the ones I make are just as good 🙂
Having friends over on Wednedsay was great, we had a lovely dinner, I made some cinnamon nuts as nibbles, which I will post about later, as well as the pumpkin gingerbread.
Hooray for Friday! Any exciting weekend plans?
I am looking forward to a run tomorrow hooray! 🙂
Yesterday I went to the cinema straight from work (freebies to see The Social Network which was really good, in a talky Aaron Sorkin way as to be expected), and got home super late. So no running of any kind.
Today I have been amusing myself looking through the race photos- last year there were none of me, this year there are loads, moslty of me running towards the finish line looking pained (trying to breathe) and in some photos eyes shut. Hardly how I imagine I look as I run!! Seriously, in my head I look all neat and my ponytail swings gracefully behind me, whereas in real life my hair comes out the millions of clips, I look dishevilled and messy and in pain (even when I am not)- I do not look like the front cover of runners world that’s for sure!! Haha.
I got some parcels ;
Exciting things from Mule bar 🙂
I could have done with the energy gel on sunday! I am looking forward to trying them all out- should have had one today but I had already had my seed stacked bar.
IN fact on that note there were loads of wrappers on the floor at the start line. Is it me or is that a little unnessessary? Having never run a 10k in 35 mins I have no idea if you need the gel to go that fast, but hey, I thought they were specially for longer exercise. Plus can’t people take their rubbish with them? Even if I have a cup of water on a race I make sure I put it in the bin bags, not on the floor. But maybe that is just me? I usually have pockets so can put rubbish in one of those for later. What do you do with rubbish on a race?
Today I had to resort to the deep heat as the backs of my hamstrings have been so stiff and sore. I think sitting in the cinema didn’t help things, normally after a race I would have a walk or a gentle run the next day, but time did not allow for this.
But I am off to aerobics in a bit and hoping that the movement will help warm up and un-stiffen my muscles.
In other news, I am in love with pumpkin baked goods! I made the Oh She Glows pumpkin gingerbread (for our friends coming tomorrow) and it smells so good- all warm and spicy. I have not had any yet but I am looking forward to it!
So today was the first time that I volunteered at a race instead of running it. I had to arrive at 9am for a briefing at 9.30am- once there I was given a rather fetching orange t-shirt to wear (it went over my vest and jumper and under my raincoat).
I tried to take a picture;
But it didn’t work and Andy was out once home, so I did this:
It is not my colour!!
Anyway, I had though that it was starting at 10am, but the race didn’t start until 11, and there was not much to do beforehand (expect taking the tops off some of the cereal bar boxes) so I spent ages wandering around the field trying to keep warm. I was trying to spot the highest (1500) and lowest (12) race number that I could. Fun times!
Once it started it was better as we could watch the runners go around- the race looped near to the start area a few times so we had glimpses of them. The first guy came in after 34 minutes (for a 10K- amazing!)- he was way ahead of the next few. We had a rush for a bit when most people were coming in. One poor girl took the cereal bar from me and looked a bit funny, I asked her if she was ok and she grabbed my hand before half collapsing and bursting into tears- poor thing. She was so emotional (I think the cancer research runs are as people have the signs on their backs so it is very personal who they are running for)- luckily the paramdeics were right there and she was ok.
I got chatting to someone else who works for cancer research and she has persuaded me to look into signing up to help with the London marathon- something I have never thought about but apparently one job is a cheer point and you get megaphones to cheer the runners on- sounds fun right?
The last people came in after 2 hours (lots of people walked it) and I came home to warm up!
I enjoyed helping out and would do it again for sure- although I didn’t realise I would be there so long (and when I left other people were still sorting things out). It was very organised.
This afternoon I have been trying to warm up by making autumnal foods- I had this baby to use up;
I can never cut them up! I tried, but in the end I roasted it whole;
before putting it in a pan with some carrot, ginger and stock;
Good stuff 🙂
I have also baked some more apples with spices and blackberries for my fave autumnal dessert. Now my house smells lovely with all the spices mingling in the air. Hooray!
A super speedy post tonight.
I went to body pump and it was fab!
I was cautious to begin with, although I used my normal weights. I took the squats track a little gentler, not squatting as low, and that was fine. All the arm stuff was fine (well, I say fine, I mean it didn’t hurt my leg at all), and even the lunges (again, cautious) were fine. What did feel weird was the abs stuff- the plank where you move your hands out to the side felt a little strange, but all in all, back in the game!
Now for one of these;
Woo hoo again!
Now my question is, re. Friends- if Monday is one day, Tuesday is two day, Wednesday is what day, Thursday is the third day, what is Friday? Kind of rhymes with five day, but then where is number 4? Hmm.
As if the excitement of all the parcels yesterday was not enough, today I got even more! One parcel was a present for a friend, but another one was for the cookie swap! How exciting! Aisha sent me some vanilla cupcakes (for my blog name) and some indian biscuits called Tepla. I cannot wait to try them and have a cupcake lined up to accomany tea and TV later on! She was also so kind to put in a little Jamie Oliver cook book- how kind 🙂 The cupcakes travelled remarkably well (I was too chicken to send cupcakes!!)- they have pretty icing, glitter, little shapes on them. Love it!
It was so exciting to open it and not know what was inside- like a non-birthday present! I love surprises 🙂
On other subjects, I decided not to run today. Partly it would have been a rush to fit it in after work as I had someone coming to do a quote for some work on the house, and partly because my leg has been niggling. Only a tiny bit, but it feels like if I do a sudden twisty movement then I will make it worse. Normally it is feeling ok, but I decided that rest would do more good- I want to have fresh working legs on Sunday.
Something I am looking forward to is on Saturday I am volunteering at a race, and I have not done so before. It is a local race but as I had already booked the sunday race I didn’t want to do 2 in a row, so decided to help when I saw it on the website. So anyone know what to expect? It’s a 10K for cancer research, and I am at the finish line.
Also tomorrow is my beloved body pump. I am undecided whether to go- the moves are mostly slow so I am thinking it will be good to do some exercise that won’t make my leg more sore. Plus I am feeling antsy and think it will help me feel better. I know I could go and have lower weights for the squats, and no weights for the lunges if it is sore. So anyt thoughts? Writing down the pros and cons seems to help- all the tracks for arms and chest will be fine, so I think I should go. Yes, I am pretty sure I will go.
Excuse that last ramble!
