Who’s idea was a run before breakfast?

As it certainly was not my idea! (yeah, it was Andy’s!)

Last night body pump was great- and phew I managed the full press ups again (not sure if I could manage more than 4 though haha!)- next week I am going to try higher dumbells as the triceps track finishes with a short lot of kickbacks, and also as the shoulders track seems to switch between standing up stuff and kneeling down stuff, and only a small time with the bar at the end I think I may be able to go a little heavier.

Then it was time for a refuel:

I made some chia seed pudding, with a small mashed banana, cocoa powder, splash of milk, tbsp chia seeds and xanthan gum, left in the fridge while I was out. Then topped with strawberries and Lizi’s mango granola (with lovely pieces of dried mango in there yum). The pudding went really fluffy, sort of, a bit like angel delight! (Anyone else used to love that? Although we always had generic supermarket stuff so we called it milk pudding).

Anyway, as Andy was off to Silverstone today and leaving before 7am, he suggested I had a run in the morning (I was going to go after the waffle house today, as I would not get out over the weekend) so I didn’t wash my hair last night which left me no option!

Anyway, I left my kit out so from the alarm going off to heading out was 10 mins. I did my 5k loop in 31 mins, so I was pretty pleased with that. It was drizzling and windy when I left, but by the time I got home it was dry. I was starving though- I am always hungry the morning after body pump, and having been awake earlier I suppose made it worse!

Then (after my quickest shower) it was time for breakfast! This was porridge made with mashed banana, oats, milk and sprinkled with cinnamon. It was so good! I keep seeing people having mashed banana in their porridge, but have never tried it before. It is a keeper I can tell you!

I only just had time to dry my hair (this takes a good 15 mins which is why I normally wash it in the evening) before rushing off to work, but as the traffic is generally lighter on a Friday I was there 5 mins later than my usual arrival time, so not bad at all. As the day has gone on I have got more stiff (from body pump) and I quite liked having a run in the morning, so I might consider it a bit more, especially on a Friday when I can afford to leave a little later.

After work was the waffle house! Hooray! And unlike last time everyone made it this time so I had a lovely catch up over a pecan waffle. Mmm. I wish they did a peanut butter one though! What flavour would you love to see?

I also had the laziest dinner ever!

Yup, a veg pot! We did not know what time Andy would get home, and when we ordered out shopping I was still planning on a run after my waffle (yeah that would not have been a good idea I think!), so we decided on the second quickest dinner (if you are wondering, toast is the quickest). Delish anyway. What is your fave lazy dinner?

So off to Silverstone tomorrow 🙂 Have a fab Saturday everyone!

Busy bee

Hello! I trust you are all enjoying this beautiful weather (although I feel one day of sunshine cannot quite be a heatwave!).

I have been busy over the weekend in the kitchen (but I have been enjoying the weather- I had a walk yesterday evening and went round for a late breakfast in my parent’s garden this morning), so be prepared for many photos!

First up were some amazing chocolate crispy squares from Oh She Glows (I found them while looking for chia seed recipes!!)- I used Rude Health puffed oats as I had them, and did not have rice crispies. They are amazing. Seriously. The recipe is here.

Then I had this “problem” to deal with:

That is a lot of bananas! I have had some banana “pudding” (mashed up with pb and carob powder) and have some in the fridge. But I still had loads left and I did not want to put them in the freezer. Then I remembered seeing a recipe for banana brownies on Peanutnutterbutter’s blog- recipe here.

I added some peanut butter chips to it as well, as they need using up! This smells so good and will be going into work as everyone will approve of the fat free recipe. 🙂

I also tried one of my new salad dressings last night.

I was going to ask you to guess which one, but you can see it in the pic! Whoops! I had it with some falafel type things (chickpeas in the food processor with tomato puree, garlic, chilli, a little water and some gluten flour- then rolled into balls- it made 12), some red and white quinoa (I have run out of dried stuff and the pouches were on offer), beetroot and lettuce. Really I should have had it in a pasta bowl in layers, as the dressing made the qunioa lovely too. It was really summery, and reminded me of dressings we used to get when we went on holiday to France. Yum. Plus, look how pink it is!

Finally I made some hazelnut praline muffins, from my new Hummingbird book- these are for Sunday tea.

Not sure why they are not cupcakes? But basically it was a normal muffin/ cupcake batter, with some nutella (well, whole earth chocolate hazelnut spread) stirred in, then spoon batter into the cases, add a blob of spread and then more batter, and top with chopped hazelnuts. They smell amazing!

Running related news- (we have the Great South run booked which is a 10 miler in October) and today we signed up for the Silverstone half marathon. I think I need to do those sorts of races as I like going for longer than 6 miles at the weekend- they are a challenge and hopefully I can work on getting my times down a bit. And I got an email from the Olympics saying that so long as they take payment, we will have the tickets we bid for! Phew- the early start was worth it! 🙂

Finally, a random picture from the other day- I whizzed up 80g frozen raspberries and added some alpro chocolate. It does go just like sorbet. Then I had the rest of the alpro dessert underneath. Yummy.

And I will be back later to see who has won the Bloom Tea giveaway! Exciting stuff!

Right, I am off to the garden!

Questions- Any 10 mile/ half marathon distance races you have loved? I have all year so let me know 🙂

And what are you doing to enjoy this weather?

Stay tuned people…..

Because over the weekend I will have some news of a giveaway! How exciting!

But first, man I have been busy at work, and when I got home I needed a boost before body pump.

Some Earl Grey tea, coz that is how the English roll.

Then it was body pump time! Woo! It was not the new release, which I was quite relieved about. Better the devil you know! It was super hard though- I went back up to my pre marathon weights, and I am already paying for it now!

Then I had some lovely banana chocolate pudding (inspired by Jemma from Celery and Cupcakes):

Mashed banana with cocoa powder and pb, then topped with a pear and some strawberries (including some from my garden). 🙂 Looks like a mess, tastes like a dream.

I put the links onto the post form yesterday for the tofu bake and the raw chocolate brownie too, just in case you were wondering.

Also, a weird thing happened to me the other day when I was driving home. I was driving along a road, and a guy in a car pulled out across my lane to turn right. There was not much of a gap, and he had to put his foot down a bit, and as he pulled in front of me, he stuck his tongue out at me. Yes, you read that right. A fully grown man stuck his tongue out at me. Now, I did not beep or gesticulate or anything, so it was not in retaliation. So so weird. I was laughing in shock and looking around in case anyone else saw it. So, any weird car experiences?

Yay for the weekend (nearly)

🙂

Hello, my name is Maria and I am a hoarder

Yes, I am a total hoarder.

This morning I decided to re-arrange my tea cupboard. Yes, first of all, you read that right. I have a whole cupboard for tea.

Yes, that really is all just tea. Or as Peter from Family Guy would say, “All the tea”.  Is that too much tea for two people?

Many various Teapigs teas, a lot of Equal Exchange Chai (it was cheaper to buy 6 boxes and we will drink it in the end), all the Whitards bargains. And hidden under all the boxes, a container for boring teabags!

One container for chai teabags (yes, we used to have only 2 containers for teabags, now we have a cupboard full). Three tins of loose leaf Whitards Christmas tea (one now contains Teapigs Assam loose leaf tea)- one was super cheap as it had a dent in the tin. Plus loads of other teas- Cosy teas from when I reviewed them, Twinnings, Rooibos chai, mint… Perhaps I should leave teaching and open a tearoom in my living room instead?

I was going to calculate how many cups it would all make, but then I didn’t.

Then I found some more. But I could not be bothered to get it all lined up again.

Random samples and yogi chai (which I find very strong smelling, kind of like aniseed, so I keep it in another cupboard so it doesn’t make the other tea smell like it).

I knew I liked tea, but I did not quite realise how much!

Then I realised I hoard other things too.

Cereal bars (what can I say, I like variety). If we had other Clif bar flavours over here you know I would have boxes and boxes of them!!

Nut and seed spreads. I also have some pumpkin seed butter which I found in my cupboard after too.

And lots of dried fruit varieties. Strawberries, cherries, mango, peach, apple, dates, cranberries, figs. I do not even eat dried fruit that much, but I love it in baking and every now and then. And porridge.

I like variety, and I never know what I will want, so I like to have a lot of different things to choose from. Only thing is, the best before date comes and goes….

Anyway, I have been using some of them up.

Today I had porridge and peaches in a peanut butter jar.

Yum. This was to warm me up before heading out to the St Albans half marathon (to cheer the children on and give out the medals). Bronagh I hope you got on OK and didn’t get too wet!.

I also made some little Katie inspired mint chocolate fudge babies- using up some of those dates and getting to use my new food processor still( the most important bit!).

This was 150g dates, 45g cashews, 2tbs cocoa and a drop of peppermint essence. Yum they are delicious. 🙂 (and 65 cals a piece according to WLR )although I think I would use a different nut next time as I was not so keen on the cashews- maybe almonds or brazils. The original recipe uses walnuts, but I don’t like them and I don’t have any, hence the cashews. I could go crazy with my dried fruit collection- I reckon brazil and cranberry with cocoa for rocky road ones would be good.

I also had a massive cup of Christmas tea when I got back from the run as I was so cold and wet (using up the tea you see).

Anything that you love to hoard? And why do you think you do it? I think it is because I am so indecisive, although in fact that makes it worse because I have to choose. Hmm.

Other news.

Yesterday I did a run- 8.5 mile in 1 hr30 (so I have got back to my normal ish speed, compared to last week where I think I did under 7 in 1hr 20)- I managed 4 miles at 10.23 pace near the end. I seem to take a good few miles to speed up, and then it seems I can maintain that speed for the rest of the run. Anyway, we went bowling after that (I for 45 for the first game- can anyone get lower than that??) which was fun, and then for a BBQ. Good times.

Finally, I know I do not go on about my weight on here, but I stepped on the scales yesterday. Since starting marathon training, I have put on 3lbs. Now, that does not seem like much, but as I am short I think it shows quite a lot. One pound on each arm and one on my stomach I think (I know that is not how it actually goes but that is where it shows on me). So, I am not going to post my weight on here, but I am going to be making a big effort over the next few weeks to keep up the exercise, and make healthy choices. I decided that putting it on here may give me a little more incentive.

Bye 🙂

Another run- exciting stuff!

Hello!

I had another run today, yay!

Yesterday I had a late staff meeting, and loads of work, so I did not get home in time for aerobics, although I did manage a short walk after dinner.

Today I was planning a run- I was not sure how my hamstring would be on a slightly longer run, so I did a 2 mile loop to see how I felt- I felt fine so then I carried on with a 2.6 mile route. It was all fine. I actually managed to pick up the pace a little, and did 3 of the miles at 10.23 pace. I was out for 50 mins (some crossing roads coz of rush hour meant it took longer than it should.

But I am pleased that I feel fine after. Last weekend it was sore after a few miles (maybe 3/ 3.5) so I know it is better now.

After that I had some work to do and had to wait for my chilli to cook, so I decided to make a chai latte. Or something like that. Not sure what they are called.

I made some chai tea (breaking into the massive Whitards stash) and left it to cool while I had a shower. Then I mixed that with some almond and hazelnut rice milk, some ice and a bit of agave.

Yum! I am pretty sure the rice milk made it delicious, and I think I should have left the agave out as it was quite sweet (the rice milk is sweetened). I did feel weird drinking cold tea (although it was a nice spicy flavour that it added)- I think my brain needs to get around that! I am sure the caffeine helped me work super fast too!

Is that a chai latte? Having never had one from Starbucks or anything I have no idea- do they normally have coffee in them too?

Night 🙂
